Unknown Person in Barrel Vault

The above-ground barrel vault is one of the most interesting graves at the Daughters of Zion Cemetery. No visible inscriptions remain. The photograph above shows the barrel vault after restoration and the photograph below, by Steve Trumbull of C’ville Images, shows it before restoration.

May 15, 2019 · Mr. Tim Winther, Senior Project Manager, Dominion Traditional Building Group (Expert Masonry Restoration), discusses the steps he will undertake to restore and preserve the barrel vault with Preservers Project Manager Steve Thompson.

Thanks to the efforts of Del. David J. Toscano and staff, funds received from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources were made available to repair the barrel vault.

On May 24, 2019, in 90+ degree heat, Mr. Mike Ondrick, Project Manager, Dominion Traditional Building Group, first cleaned the barrel vault with an algaecide to retard organic matter growth and then applied three coats of whitewash paint.
