This building at 121 Second Street NW was owned by the Gilmer family from 1876 to 1923.

Nancy Gilmer Reeves and her husband Edward lived at 121 Second Street NW before he died in 1915. That property at the corner of Market and 2nd Streets had been owned by Nancy’s family since 1876. After she became a widow Nancy continued to live there with her sister Cornelia Gilmer until 1923 when the property was sold. The two sisters then moved to the Pearl Street neighborhood which was located where the Albemarle County Office Building sits today.
