Nancy Baker Gatewood Cary and her husband Jesse H. Cary were both important in the history of the Daughters of Zion, Jesse as a Trustee and Nancy as President. Nancy’s obituary mentions two of their daughters, Mrs. Maggie L. Terry and Mrs. Mary E. Gordon, who both taught in the public schools here. The obituary also mentions Nancy’s niece, Mrs. Alice Gatewood Minor, a beloved and valued resident of Starr Hill who taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church for fifty years.
